Description
As a Testing & Performance Engineer ICE at Audi Formula Racing GmbH in Neuburg, Germany, you will be an active driver of the combustion and mechanical performance of the F1 power unit.
Your mission is to independently plan, define, execute, and evaluate highly dynamic test programs on single-cylinder and component test benches, focusing on performance and efficiency.
Key responsibilities include:
- Planning and executing test programs on single-cylinder and component test benches
- Operating and optimizing test bench and measurement chain
- Developing innovative concepts to increase performance and improve efficiency
- Analyzing indicated combustion data and deriving development measures
- Setting up and maintaining a robust database for test-to-test and hardware-to-software correlation
- Collaborating with CFD and simulation teams for targeted model improvement
- Automating evaluation and testing processes using tools like MATLAB, Python, and Concerto
The ideal candidate has a completed technical degree in mechanical engineering, internal combustion engines, or a related field, with a Master's or PhD preferred.
Required skills include:
- Experience operating single-cylinder or highly dynamic engine test benches
- Deep understanding of combustion analysis and thermodynamic evaluation
- Proficiency in handling test benches and evaluation systems (e.g., Concerto, ATLAS)
- Strong programming skills in MATLAB and/or Python
- Experience in interfaces between testing and simulation (CFD / 0D / 1D)
Preferred skills include:
- Experience in combustion process development and gas exchange in modern high-performance engines
- Understanding of boosting, injection, and ignition systems in highly dynamic operation
- Experience in identifying friction and loss mechanisms at the system level
- Knowledge of automated test bench and testing processes
