Engineering Manager, Media Foundations and Delivery

Reddit is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead its Media Foundations & Delivery team.

The successful candidate will help transition media into a first-class citizen with a strong technical foundation and extensible architecture.

Responsibilities:

• Drive Infrastructure Modernization: Lead the architectural shift to elevate media to a first-class citizen.
• Optimize Playback & Delivery: Own key success metrics related to Quality of Services (QoS), including Time to First Frame (TTFF), stall/rebuffer rates, exits before video screen (EBVS).
• Manage Global Distribution: Partner closely with infrastructure teams to define how to scale media via Content Delivery Networks (CDNs), edge computing, and caching strategies.
• Standardize Formats: Drive the standardization of the stack, from streaming protocols (HLS, MPEG-DASH) to container formats (CMAF, MP4).
• Champion a culture of innovation and experimentation, where team members are encouraged to explore, test, and refine novel ideas.
• Establish a clear technical vision and direction for media systems.
• Navigate ambiguity with confidence, utilizing data-driven insights to guide the team towards successful outcomes.
• Work in close partnership with Product, Data, and ML teams to ensure effective leadership and alignment with broader organizational objectives.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related quantitative field.
• 8+ years of industry experience, including 3+ years of engineering management experience.
• Proficiency in at least one programming language (Java, Go, Python).
• Strong background in video streaming technologies, CDN routing, and media ingestion.
• Proven ability to balance immediate performance fixes with long-term architectural overhauls.
• Experience defining and governing clear Service Level Objectives and Indicators (SLOS, SLIs).
• Exceptional leadership, team management, communication, and collaboration skills.
