Outside Machinist

We are seeking an experienced Outside Machinist to join our team at Saronic-Franklin. As an Outside Machinist, you will be responsible for installing, aligning, and testing main propulsion plant machinery, as well as performing overhaul, maintenance, and installation of valves, pumps, turbines, and heat exchangers.

Key responsibilities include:

• Reading, interpreting, and following blueprints and sketches to understand project specifications
• Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
• Figuring material take-offs on drawings for required cut lengths
• Marking reference points and transposing them to workpieces using measuring devices, squares, chalk, and/or soapstone
• Planning pipe system layout, installation, or repair per specifications
• Installing large and small machinery, including pipe systems, pumps, and motors
• Using precision instruments to achieve proper alignment and fit
• Operating machine tools and portable equipment to modify or fabricate parts as needed

In addition to technical skills, we are looking for someone who can work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced ship production environment. You should be able to maintain a clean and safe work area, as well as a positive attitude towards customers and represent Saronic professionally.
