Regulatory Compliance Support Engineer (BHM)

Join the growing electric utility industry as a Regulatory Compliance Support Engineer at Southern Company. You will be part of a talented team providing technical services in the electrical discipline to support the Electric Reliability Organization (ERO). This role involves program management of NERC standards, support for market requests, training, and coordination with generating facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

• Ensure compliance with regulations within the ERO Support team.
• Collaborate with project managers and third-party vendors on new plant builds and retrofits.
• Serve as a technical role model for other engineers.
• Participate in industry committees and drafting teams.
• Provide support for technical issues and maintain technical proficiency.
• Develop and maintain relationships within the plant and with Operations Compliance.
• Become a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for assigned NERC standards.

Essential Functions:

• Knowledge of protective relaying application and philosophy.
• Familiarity with plant electrical equipment and generator voltage control.
• Experience with NERC standards is preferred.
• Broad knowledge of power plants and power plant modeling techniques.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Ability to assess risk and manage time effectively.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office suite.
• Some travel required (up to 25%).

Education Requirements:

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution; Electrical Engineering preferred.
