Description
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Harness Design Engineer to join our team. As an Electrical Harness Design Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, fabricating and integrating harness systems, and representing the harness discipline on a project.
Your key responsibilities will include investigating, planning, designing and developing harnesses to meet various technical requirements, researching and selecting appropriate connectors, back-shells, contacts, wire, shielding, and cable construction for the product to meet appropriate environmental requirements, developing and generating harness system block diagrams and wire diagrams to release for production, participating in design reviews and providing input to identify issues and drive design choices, preparing harness assembly instructions and test procedures, incorporating your knowledge of industry standards and best practices, and providing guidance to the electrical team in identifying electrical system requirements given input from internal and external stakeholders including engineering (mechanical, electrical, software), product management, quality and compliance.
You will work in a fast-paced environment supporting new developments, active deployments, and customer-operated hardware, and concurrently manage involvement in multiple projects at various stages.
To be successful in this role, you will need to have a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent, and 3+ years hands-on experience designing electrical harnessing for rugged commercial, industrial, aerospace, or military applications, experience working directly with harness manufacturers to deliver high-quality, high-reliability products, and ownership of end-to-end of the electrical wiring and interconnect system, including power distribution, grounding, shielding, and signal integrity.
You will also need to ensure the design meets system-level electrical requirements for voltage, current, bandwidth, redundancy, EMI/EMC, perform electrical trade studies for wire gauge, shielding, connector selection, and topology, analyze and mitigate electrical risks such as voltage drop, crosstalk, EMI susceptibility, and thermal effects, familiarity with common electrical bus interfaces (CAN, Ethernet, RS422, RS232, 1553), familiarity with existing applicable harness standards as well as MIL-STD requirements, ability to apply knowledge of SWaP for power, network, and communications systems and designs, experience reading wire block interconnect diagrams and wire diagrams, and exceptional organization and communication skills (both written and oral).
Preferred qualifications include building 3D routed harness data files applying NX Cabling and Siemens Capital Harness, experience with or proficiency in 3D CAD wire harness routing, such as (NX, Siemens Capital, CATIA, CREO), ability to read and generate formboard drawings in 2D CAD for production, EMI/EMC principles, and common electrical bus interfaces (CAN, Ethernet, RS-422, RS-232, MIL-STD-1553).
The salary range for this role is $98,000-$171,000 USD, and highly competitive equity grants are included in the majority of full-time offers.
