Join OpenAI as a full-time Research Scientist / Research Engineer in our San Francisco office. This role is designed for early-career individuals, especially current undergraduate students and recent graduates who have demonstrated technical ability through elite competitions and challenges.

You will join OpenAI.Signal processing, machine learning, and natural language processing are some of the key areas of research at OpenAI. You will be working on cutting-edge projects that aim to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of AI systems.

As a Research Scientist / Research Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and testing new AI models and algorithms. You will work closely with other researchers and engineers to identify research opportunities and develop solutions to complex problems.

In addition to your technical expertise, you will also be expected to communicate your research findings effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and test new AI models and algorithms
  • Collaborate with other researchers and engineers to identify research opportunities and develop solutions to complex problems
  • Communicate research findings effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated exceptional mathematical or algorithmic problem-solving ability
  • Strong ability to reason about complex technical or mathematical systems
  • Comfort with linear algebra, probability, statistics, and optimization
  • Evidence of rapid independent learning and technical creativity
  • Ability to obtain and maintain authorization to work in the United States by the program start date

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High-level results in Olympiads, Putnam, ICPC, or similar competitions
  • Top or novel performance in an OpenAI-hosted Challenge or similar
  • Research in mathematics, algorithms, theoretical computer science, physics, or machine learning
  • Independent projects exploring machine learning systems, algorithms, or AI research
