Doctor, nurse or health professional
Doctors who qualified abroad register with the GMC. Most show their English (IELTS Academic or OET) and pass the PLAB test. Nurses and midwives trained abroad join the NMC register, which means an English test (IELTS Academic or OET), a computer-based test (CBT) and a practical exam (OSCE).

Five practical steps
-
01
Get your qualifications compared
UK ENIC issues a Statement of Comparability showing how your qualification compares to UK levels. There is a fee, and if your documents aren't in English, a translation waiver service costs £40 (£48 including VAT). If you were displaced by the war, UK ENIC may use its discretion over documents you can't provide.
-
02
Check whether your job is regulated
The government's Regulated Professions Register lets you check whether a profession is regulated in the UK and who regulates it. If your profession is regulated, the register shows who to apply to.
-
03
Improve your English
English classes are available through local councils. Ask your council what is on offer near you.
-
04
Prove your right to work
If you're on the Homes for Ukraine scheme, the Ukraine Family Scheme or the Ukraine Permission Extension, you can work in the UK and your visa isn't connected to any work offer. Employers check your right to work with a share code from your eVisa. You can put this line on your CV:
I have the right to work in the UK under the Ukraine schemes. My visa is not tied to an employer. A share code is available on request.

Get help from Jobcentre Plus
Jobcentre Plus can give you a work coach who you meet regularly.
Never pay to get a job
Recruitment agencies cannot charge you a fee for finding or trying to find you work. If anyone asks you to pay for a job, walk away. Every job on this page links to the employer's own website.
