Salary

$98,600 - $133,400

Apply on The Boeing Company

Description

Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) is seeking Associate, Experienced, or Lead Satellite Electrical Power and Harness Systems Engineers to join our team in El Segundo, California.

The Space, Intelligence, and Weapon Systems (SIWS) team designs and delivers next-generation satellite products and services for both commercial and proprietary customers. Our team supports all engineering phases, including technology investment, concept development, proposal writing, requirements definition, design, build, integration, testing, and demonstration in operational environments.

The Electrical Power System (EPS) and Harness Engineering team is responsible for the design, analysis, testing, and operation of power systems across a variety of vehicle classes. This includes power generation, energy storage, power regulation, and power distribution. We seek candidates with a strong engineering / scientific / analytical background to work on system level issues including proposal work, power system design, power system testing, and anomaly resolution.

Ideal candidates will possess expertise in harness design tools, electrical modeling tools, power systems architecture, and regulated power systems and familiarity with modern "battery-on-bus" architectures to enable future technology insertion.

As a Satellite Electrical Power and Harness Systems Engineer at Boeing, you will be part of a high-performing, dynamic team working on intensive satellite development projects. Your work will span power and harness subsystems for both one-time development and sustaining engineering efforts.

Responsibilities:

  • Define and refine requirements and develop verification artifacts for satellite electrical power and/or harness subsystems
  • Perform detailed power subsystem analyses, including battery performance modeling and battery charge management planning, bus voltage regulation and stability analysis, and redundancy and fault-tolerance strategies
  • Conduct harness analyses such as voltage drop calculations, fuse blow assessments, short circuit clearing, failure modes and effects analyses (FMEA)
  • Develop, maintain, and update vehicle-level power budgets for all mission phases
  • Assume end-to-end ownership of the EPS/harness subsystem throughout the spacecraft lifecycle
  • Lead power subsystem architecture and sizing efforts, including block diagram development, solar array sizing, and battery capacity determination
  • Collaborate across multidiscipline teams to ensure design integrity and subsystem compatibility

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
  • 2+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience
  • 2+ years of experience working with space related electrical power and harness subsystems

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Level 3 (Experienced): 5+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Level 4 (Lead): 9+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience with DC-DC converters and power electronics design to optimize efficiency and mass savings
  • Familiarity with electromagnetic interference (EMI) and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) analysis
  • Knowledge of industry space qualification standards and guidelines
  • Experience with software tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, PSpice, Schematic capture/ECAD tools, and power system simulation software
  • Understanding of failure investigations and root cause analysis (RCA) methodologies for spacecraft power anomalies
  • Ability to support mission operations with anomaly resolution and power subsystem troubleshooting

Benefits:

  • Competitive base pay and variable compensation opportunities
  • Health insurance, flexible spending accounts, health savings accounts, retirement savings plans, life and disability insurance programs
  • Paid and unpaid time away from work

Salary Range:

  • Associate (Level 2): $98,600 - $133,400
  • Experienced (Level 3): $119,850 - $162,150
  • Lead (Level 4): $146,200 - $197,800
