Description

Southwark Council is seeking a Traveller Officer to work closely with Traveller communities, internal teams, fire safety specialists, and external contractors.

The successful candidate will act as the primary, on-site point of contact for residents during fire safety and improvement works, providing clear and timely communication about planned works, safety requirements, timelines, and temporary arrangements.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Acting as the primary point of contact for residents during fire safety and improvement works
  • Providing clear and timely communication about planned works, safety requirements, timelines, and temporary arrangements
  • Ensuring residents understand and follow fire safety guidance and mitigation measures

  • Identifying risks promptly, escalating issues appropriately, and helping to coordinate solutions
  • Supporting new and existing residents with tenancy matters, site rules, and licence agreements
  • Carrying out regular site visits to monitor conditions, identify breaches, and respond to concerns
  • Managing low-level anti-social behaviour, neighbour disputes, and safeguarding concerns in line with policy
  • Working with internal teams on repairs, maintenance, waste management, and environmental issues
  • Ensuring accurate record-keeping, case notes, and data entry
  • Promoting good site management, positive engagement, and respectful relationships with residents

The role requires an experienced Housing Officer with a strong understanding of housing management and landlord responsibilities, ideally with experience working alongside marginalised and underrepresented communities, including Traveller communities.

Benefits of the role include:

  • Competitive salary and pension
  • Growth opportunities with extensive training and development
  • Family-friendly policies, including flexible working and home working
  • Local government pension scheme
