Description
We are seeking a Geophysics Professional to join our Water Management team in Calgary, Alberta. As a Geophysics Professional, you will bring near-surface geophysics to life across engineering and environmental projects throughout the Prairies and North.
The Opportunity
You will lead field programs, technical interpretation, and collaborative solutions that help clients better understand the ground beneath critical projects.
Your Impact
- Lead geophysical field teams and deliver ground surveys using various methods, including seismic reflection and refraction, MASW, time-domain electromagnetics, electrical resistivity imaging, magnetics, ground penetrating radar, electromagnetics, and microgravity methods on land, in boreholes, and over water.
- Manage program logistics, equipment, seismic sources, receivers, electromagnetic instruments, and borehole tools to support safe and efficient field execution.
- Review field data through rigorous quality assurance and quality control, then guide junior staff through processing and analysis.
- Process, analyze, and integrate geophysical data with multidisciplinary datasets to produce clear, defensible interpretations.
- Prepare technical reports, memoranda, presentations, proposals, and scopes that help clients make informed project decisions.
- Mentor junior geophysicists and technicians in field acquisition, data processing, interpretation, and safe work practices.
- Collaborate with engineering and environmental specialists to expand geophysical solutions across diverse client sectors.
- Champion WSP safety protocols and procedures during frequent fieldwork, including assignments in remote and outdoor environments.
The Skills That Set You Apart
- A bachelor’s or master’s degree in Geophysics, Earth Sciences, Geological Engineering, or a related discipline with a geophysics focus; a postgraduate geophysics qualification is an asset.
- Five to ten years of experience applying geophysics to near-surface engineering and geoscience projects.
- Practical or learned experience with at least four relevant methods, including seismic refraction, seismic reflection, MASW, ERI, ground penetrating radar, geophysical borehole logging, time- or frequency-domain electromagnetics, airborne geophysics, or nuclear magnetic resonance.
- Demonstrated capability in field data quality control, geophysical processing, multidisciplinary integration, interpretation, and technical reporting.
- Experience leading teams, coordinating field logistics and equipment, and supporting the development of junior professionals.
- Readiness to travel frequently for fieldwork, approximately 50% to 75%, and to work outdoors in remote areas.
- Physical fitness and mechanical aptitude, together with practical experience using computers, electronics, and geophysical instrumentation.
- A safety-focused approach and the ability to communicate technical findings clearly to internal and external clients.
- A valid driver licence and a clean driver abstract.
- Successful completion of pre-access drug and alcohol testing requirements as needed for client/site.
