Description
As a Tailings / Geotechnical Engineer at WSP, you will work as part of a diverse team of engineers, scientists, and modellers from conceptual design through to detail design and engineering.
Your role will involve providing specialised technical input focused on tailings management facilities, heap leach facilities, water impoundments, and waste rock dump design, soil mechanics, soil improvement methods, geosynthetic materials engineering, and related civil engineering work for projects worldwide.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing your involvement in projects, including time, budget, and quality control
- Preparing technical reports, drawings, specifications, bill of quantities, and cost estimates
- Travelling within the UK and internationally to assist clients in solving engineering problems and support construction of WSP designs
- Developing and maintaining good relationships with new and existing clients
- Liaising with the Mining Team networks, including specialists within WSP both nationally and internationally
- Providing mentoring and coaching to other team members of graduate level
- Assisting others in carrying out business development activities
To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate:
- A degree qualification in civil engineering, geotechnical engineering, or engineering geology, with a strong emphasis on and proven ability in soil mechanics
- Knowledge of national and international design guidelines and regulations
- Mining and geotechnical experience relating to mine waste disposal/facilities
- The ability to interpret and monitor results and use a variety of tools to monitor and design geotechnical structures
- Theoretical and practical experience of project management and consultancy
- Ability to manage and work effectively within a team environment
- Willingness to travel in the UK and internationally, and on occasion to remote environments
