Description
The E-Commerce Shipping Supervisor leads the team that gets online orders packed, labeled, and out the door accurately and on time. You will manage daily outbound parcel operations, coach a team of shipping associates, keep carrier handoffs on schedule, and drive safety, accuracy, and productivity across every shift you cover.
Key Responsibilities
Team leadership
- Supervise, schedule, and assign shipping associates across pick-to-ship, packing, labeling, and dock staging.
- Hire, onboard, train, and coach team members; deliver timely performance feedback and reviews.
- Handle attendance, corrective action, and employee relations in partnership with HR.
- Set clear daily goals and hold shift huddles to review volume, priorities, and safety topics.
Daily shipping operations
- Plan labor and workflow each shift against order volume, cut-off times, and service levels (same-day, next-day, expedited).
- Make sure every order ships by its carrier cut-off, and escalate backlogs before they miss the pickup.
- Manage packing standards, packaging materials, and dimensional weight to control shipping cost and damage.
- Oversee returns processing handoffs and exception handling (address errors, split shipments, held orders).
Carrier and logistics coordination
- Coordinate daily pickups and trailer loading with parcel and LTL carriers (UPS, FedEx, USPS, regional carriers).
- Verify manifests, tracking scans, and carrier documentation; resolve missed scans and pickup discrepancies.
- Work with customer service and carriers on lost, delayed, or damaged shipments.
Quality, accuracy, and continuous improvement
- Track and improve order accuracy, on-time ship rate, units per labor hour, and cost per shipment.
- Audit outbound orders, investigate mis-ships, and lead root-cause corrections.
- Recommend and implement process, layout, and automation improvements (batching, pack stations, label printing).
- Maintain accurate inventory and shipment records in the WMS and OMS.
Safety and compliance
- Enforce safety policies, PPE use, and safe equipment operation (pallet jacks, conveyors, powered industrial trucks).
- Investigate incidents and near misses, and keep the work area clean, organized, and 5S compliant.
- Follow hazmat, lithium battery, and carrier packaging regulations where applicable.
Peak season and flexibility
- Plan for peak periods (Black Friday through the holidays, major promotions): seasonal hiring, extended shifts, and surge staffing.
- Cover other shifts or functions as business needs require.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 5+ years of experience in shipping, warehouse, or e-commerce fulfillment operations, including at least 2 years in a lead or supervisory role.

- Experience with a warehouse management system (WMS), order management system (OMS), or shipping software (e.g., ProShip, ShipStation, ShipHero, NetSuite, SAP, or similar – preferably ProShip).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel or Sheets for tracking labor and shipping metrics.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to coach and motivate a diverse team.
- Ability to prioritize and make sound decisions under tight deadlines and changing volumes.
