Description
The Thornbury Hospital in Sheffield, part of Circle Health Group, is seeking a Healthcare Assistant to join their team in the Wards department. This is a bank role working on an 'as and when required' basis, supplementing staffing levels during busy periods and providing cover for existing staff in times of annual leave or absence.
The role involves:
- Assisting patients with personal hygiene, washing, dressing, toileting, oral care, and mobility needs, respecting their preferences and dignity.
- Helping patients with eating, drinking, and nutritional support, including documenting intake where appropriate.
- Providing comfort and emotional support to patients and relatives, creating a caring and safe environment.
- Carrying out and accurately recording routine observations such as blood pressure, pulse, respiratory rate, temperature, oxygen saturation, and blood glucose levels (after appropriate training).
- Supporting basic clinical procedures, including wound care setup, assisting with catheter care, pressure area prevention, and mobility aids.
- Preparing and maintaining clinical areas, including trolleys, beds, and equipment in readiness for patient use.
- Working collaboratively with nurses, doctors, therapists, and admin teams to support safe and efficient patient care.
Applicants should meet the following criteria:
- Previous experience in a care or health support role (hospital, care home, community, or domiciliary).
- Good communication and interpersonal skills with a caring, compassionate attitude.
- Ability to follow instructions and escalate concerns appropriately.
- Basic literacy, numeracy, and IT skills.
- Physically able to undertake duties including moving and handling tasks.
- NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent qualification) desirable.
- Knowledge of safeguarding, infection control, and confidentiality procedures.
Circle Health Group offers a competitive hourly rate of up to £12.82 per hour.
