Description
Samsara is looking for a Firmware Engineer to develop software that runs on millions of devices deployed by industrial and enterprise customers. The engineer will tackle challenges including evaluating and selecting hardware components, bringing up new hardware platforms and sensors, building systems to gather data and detect meaningful events, and structuring recorded data for efficient analysis.
Responsibilities:
- Shape the hardware and code that runs on it
- Bring up new platforms and prototypes from virgin silicon
- Build the layers that determine device functionality
- Design protocols and hardware management for battery-powered sensors and gateways
- Partner with product, full-stack, mobile, and quality engineers
- Raise the bar for the engineers around you
Requirements:
- 2+ years building firmware for resource-constrained systems
- Fluency in C
- Solid bare-metal and RTOS experience
- Experience with low-level interfaces (SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, ADC)
- Real bench instincts
- Cross-team scope and cross-layer judgment
- Ability to write design docs, review comments, and post-mortems
- Experience with AI and automated testing
Nice to Have:
- BLE at depth
- Cellular IoT (LTE-M or NB-IoT modem integration)
- Securing embedded systems end-to-end
- OTA and device firmware update at fleet scale
- Embedded Linux on the gateway side
- CAN and J1939 work on commercial vehicles
- Python and Bash for tooling and hardware-in-the-loop test automation
