Apply on British Transport Police

Description

British Transport Police (BTP) is the national police force for the rail network throughout Great Britain. We are the ‘Guardians of the Railway,’ putting passenger safety at the heart of what we do. Our values are simply: We Care, We Do the Right Thing, We Strive to Be Better Every Day, We Are One BTP, and We Are Proud to Protect. Join us and help create an environment where we can all be our best every day.

As an Award and Recognition Events Manager with BTP, you will provide strategic leadership for Force-wide awards, honours and recognition activity, helping to shape a culture where people feel valued and recognised for their contribution. You will act as the organisational expert on awards and recognition, ensuring robust governance, fairness and integrity across all recognition schemes, while leading the delivery of high-profile ceremonies and events on behalf of the Chief Constable.

Responsibilities:

  • Developing, implementing and continuously evolving BTP's Force-wide Awards and Recognition Strategy, ensuring recognition activity aligns with organisational priorities and values.
  • Acting as the organisational lead and subject matter expert for awards, honours and recognition schemes, providing authoritative advice and assurance to senior leaders and stakeholders across the Force.
  • Leading the planning and delivery of high-profile awards ceremonies and corporate events, including commendation ceremonies, long service awards and representation at national recognition events.
  • Ensuring robust governance, transparency and consistency across awards processes, managing reputational risk and promoting a culture of recognition through influencing senior leaders and decision-makers.

Requirements:

  • Degree-level qualification (or equivalent professional qualification), or equivalent experience demonstrating the required knowledge, skills and abilities, together with substantial executive-level administration and management experience.
  • Proven experience of influencing and engaging senior stakeholders, shaping outcomes through expert advice rather than formal authority.
  • Significant experience managing complex, sensitive or high-profile activities, with the judgement to balance organisational priorities and reputational considerations.
  • Strong events management experience, including coordinating large-scale events, stakeholders, logistics, budgets and external partners, alongside exceptional communication and relationship-building skills.

Benefits:

  • 28 days annual leave plus bank holidays, increasing to 30 days after 5 years.
  • Family-friendly policies, including up to 26 weeks paid maternity and adoption leave.
  • Bespoke benefits platform and Blue Light Card access.
  • Salary sacrifice options for cycles, home technology, gym membership, and electric vehicles.
  • Interest-free annual rail season ticket loan after 6 months.
  • Access to the Transport Benevolent Fund for health, welfare, and financial support.
  • Development opportunities, including fully funded apprenticeships.
  • Excellent Pension scheme: We offer the BTP GPP Police Staff Pension Scheme, administered by Royal London.
