An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the leadership team of Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospital Trust as a Band 8a Lead Biomedical Scientist. The successful applicant will be responsible for managing the Blood Transfusion Department across both Queens Hospital, Romford and King George Hospital, Goodmayes.
The role involves providing management for the Blood Transfusion Department, working closely with the Head of Department to coordinate, develop and transform the efficiency and quality of the Blood Transfusion service. The post holder will have direct line management responsibility for staff within the Blood Transfusion Department and lead the team in meeting regulatory requirements, including the EU Directive on Blood Safety and Quality Regulations 2005 (MHRA), UKAS ISO15189 accreditation and SHOT standards.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing the transfusion laboratory service at the trust
- Supervising technical work and leading a team of Biomedical Scientists and support staff
- Ensuring high-quality, efficient and effective service delivery
- Implementing and observing local and national policies relating to blood transfusion practice
The salary for this position ranges from £63,665 to £70,887 per annum.
The trust offers various services, including emergency departments, Neurosciences Centre, Radiotherapy Centre, Hyper Acute Stroke Unit, Women's Health Hub, Ageing Well Centre, and Community Diagnostic Centres.

The post is permanent, full-time, and based in Romford.
Requirements:
- State registration with HCPC
- Master's degree or equivalent
- Broad post HCPC registration experience
- Previous supervisory experience as Senior in Haematology/Blood Transfusion
- Comprehensive up-to-date knowledge of Blood Transfusion
Desirable qualifications:
- Management qualification
- Evidence of CPD
- Current IBMS membership
- Previous management experience as Lead in Blood Transfusion
