Description

Government Skills is undertaking an exciting period of expansion and transformation. In January 2026 the government announced plans to establish the National School of Government and Public Services to support our ambitions for a world-class, professional Civil Service.

The new school will align training with government priorities, introduce a new streamlined curriculum that is designed and delivered in-house, and invest in public sector leadership.

The College for National Security provides learning across the Civil Service and wider public sector about the threats faced by the UK and the actions needed to counter them. To respond, we need a workforce that is knowledgeable, experienced and connected.

As an Events Officer (EO), you will be an essential part of a wider Delivery team encompassing learning and events. Working under the direction of the SEO Tactical Engagement & Events Manager, you will share collective responsibility for the end-to-end operational and logistical execution of our key event workstreams.

This role is highly collaborative and hands-on, requiring you to support the delivery of both online and in-person events. You will also have the opportunity to support the wider team as we map out, design, and deliver new event types. Additionally, you will provide support in setting up engagement meetings and assisting with stakeholder briefings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the seamless logistical, technical and administrative delivery of all key event workstreams, spanning both online (inc. Teams) and in-person formats.
  • Support in producing event production plans and facilitation packs. Take a proactive role in briefing the wider team on event logistics, roles, and timings ahead of live delivery.
  • Lead on the technical setup of events within platforms. Own the end-to-end delegate registration process, using Salesforce to track sign-ups, manage attendee data, and generate delegate lists.
  • Coordinate venue logistics, liaise with external suppliers, and manage the procurement of catering and audio-visual (AV) services, including raising and tracking POs
  • Contribute to and maintain the internal events database to ensure accurate record-keeping and tracking across all workstreams.
  • Assist with drafting delegate communications, joining instructions and calendar invites, and sending these out ahead of events.
  • Manage event content on the hub by publishing recorded sessions via WordPress.

Person specification

Essential criteria:

  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail, with experience supporting the end-to-end delivery of events
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience drafting professional correspondence and working collaboratively within a team
  • Can work with different Stakeholders at all levels, including senior staff both internal and external, tailoring your communication accordingly
  • Experience liaising with external suppliers or venues, alongside an understanding of basic financial or procurement processes (e.g. handling purchase orders or tracking expenses).
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and demonstrate effective problem-solving skills in fast-paced or unexpected situations.
  • Strong IT skills with a proficiency in using spreadsheets to accurately manage lists and track data, with a willingness to learn events management within Salesforce.

Desirable:

  • Experience working with other Civil Service departments, agencies, or arms-length bodies.
  • Experience in events management
  • Enthusiasm to develop greater understanding of the National Security community.
  • Experience setting up and managing digital webinar platforms, such as MS Teams, Zoom, or similar platforms.
