Description
We are seeking a senior technology leader to partner closely with the Head of Technology for Enterprise Solutions in shaping the technology direction of a complex, regulated financial-services estate.
This is a hands-on principal engineer and architect role, not a pure governance or advisory architecture function. The role exists to ensure technology strategy is grounded in engineering reality, deep domain understanding, and operational outcomes.
Responsibilities include:
- Working directly with the Head of Technology to shape and refine strategy, stress-testing ideas against engineering, regulatory, and operational constraints
- Engaging closely with senior engineering leaders, platform teams, and product partners to turn strategy into real designs that can be built and run
- Getting involved early in complex or high-risk initiatives and stepping in when necessary, including during major incidents and recovery efforts
- Acting as the engineering authority across Enterprise Solutions, leading primarily through influence rather than line management
- Balancing long-term strategy with near-term delivery constraints, operational resilience, and regulatory expectations
- Representing the technology direction with clients and senior stakeholders, explaining design choices and trade-offs clearly and credibly
Requirements:
- 25+ years of technology leadership experience in tier-1 banking, capital markets, or other highly regulated, mission-critical environments
- Proven expertise in enterprise architecture and technology strategy, including defining multi-year roadmaps, reference architectures, design standards, and architectural governance for complex financial services platforms
- Strong technical depth in distributed, event-driven, data-intensive systems, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), security, resilience, regulatory compliance, and large-scale production environments
- Deep domain knowledge of financial services and emerging technologies, including banking operations, regulatory reporting, data platforms, AI/analytics in production, and modern architectural paradigms
Preferred qualifications:
- Strategic thinking and sound judgement, with the ability to balance long-term vision, regulatory requirements, operational realities, and business outcomes
- Influential leadership, capable of driving decisions, alignment, and engineering excellence through credibility, collaboration, and expertise rather than formal authority
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder management, able to articulate complex technical concepts, trade-offs, and risks clearly to executives, clients, regulators, and engineering teams
- Coaching and mentoring mindset, raising the capability of senior engineers and architects through hands-on guidance, design reviews, and practical problem-solving
Compensation and benefits:
- Anticipated base salary range: $177,036 to $350,000
- Eligible for an annual incentive plan and additional S&P Global benefits, including health and wellness programs, flexible downtime, continuous learning opportunities, and family-friendly perks
