Description
We are seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to develop, author, and validate hardware Technical Instructions (TIs) supporting the FAA's En Route Automation Modernization (ERAM) system.
You will turn complex hardware designs and rack layouts into clear, step-by-step work instructions for deployment and support technicians.
This role combines hands-on hardware integration experience with disciplined documentation practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Instruction lifecycle ownership: Plan, author, schedule, and maintain hardware installation guides, cable matrices, equipment configuration and setup procedures, and technician-facing work instructions.
- Hardware translation: Interpret rack elevations, electrical interfaces, power distribution, and cable and connector maps to write clear, unambiguous procedures for field technicians.
- Lab validation: Execute and validate procedures in the lab, capture technician feedback, and incorporate corrections before release.
- Process improvement: Collect and analyze operational data to find bottlenecks in hardware staging, installation, and integration, and implement measurable improvements to repeatability and deployment efficiency.
- Knowledge sharing: Lead training and knowledge-sharing sessions, manage documentation workflows, and contribute technical manual content for cross-functional engineering updates.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Hardware Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- 7+ years of progressive engineering experience, including 3+ years managing technical documentation schedules, knowledge management, or procedural integration for complex hardware or infrastructure systems.
- Proven hands-on experience with enterprise hardware architectures, rack integration, and structured cabling.
- Advanced proficiency with documentation and scheduling tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence, Visio).
Preferred Qualifications
- Direct experience with Air Traffic Management (ATM) environments or civil/military airspace systems, including system replacement or modernization programs.
- Familiarity with safety-critical hardware compliance and change management practices (e.g., DO-254).
- Service management or project delivery certifications (e.g., ITIL v4, PMP).
Pay Range: $87,100.00 - $157,450.00
