Description
We are seeking an Academic Assistant to join our team at OASIS Ascent, a short-term residential treatment program for teenagers in Provo, Utah. As an Academic Assistant, you will provide support, direct classroom lectures, and guide students on their online classes. You will monitor their academic performance and behaviour, helping them develop better focus, effective study skills, and coping skills.
You will work closely with Academic Advisors and other professionals to ensure each student receives necessary support to succeed academically. Additionally, you will provide counselling to address academic or personal issues, help students set goals, and create plans for their future.
The ideal candidate has a passion for working with young people, patience, strong interpersonal skills, and can provide guidance compassionately and empathetically.
Requirements:
- Prior experience working with adolescents in a mental health or residential treatment setting (preferred but not required)
- Ability to pass required background checks and drug screenings
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Understanding of adolescent development and common mental health disorders
- Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills
- Teaching experience or working with teens
- Knowledge of educational resources
- Empathy and patience in working with teens
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff
