Description
As an Observability Platform Team Lead at Gong, you'll define how the company sees and understands its production systems. You'll lead the team that builds the telemetry foundation, including instrumentation standards, pipelines, and tooling that enable engineering teams to detect, investigate, and resolve issues quickly.
You'll own team leadership and mentorship, observability strategy and standards, OpenTelemetry adoption, and telemetry pipelines and vendors.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading a high-performing team and building a culture of ownership, curiosity, and operational excellence
- Defining how services emit logs, metrics, and traces, including conventions, defaults, and a golden path for teams
- Leading instrumentation across Java and Spring Boot services using OpenTelemetry
- Owning the reliability, scalability, and cost efficiency of telemetry pipelines in a multi-vendor environment
You'll solve complex problems such as turning large volumes of telemetry into actionable insights, defining how to monitor data stores like PostgreSQL and Kafka, and making it fast to trace problems across services.
Your impact will include helping teams find and fix production issues faster, providing libraries and self-service tools for product teams, and bringing SRE practices into R&D.
To succeed in this role, you'll need 8+ years of hands-on engineering experience, including 2+ years leading engineers. You should have deep experience with backend engineering, OpenTelemetry, and SRE fundamentals.
