Senior Engineer

As a Senior Engineer at Target, you will serve as a specialist in the engineering team that supports the product. You will help develop and gain insight into the application architecture, distilling abstract architectures into concrete designs and influencing implementation. You will show expertise in applying software engineering patterns to build robust and scalable systems.

Key responsibilities include:

• Leading the design, lifecycle management, and total cost of ownership of services
• Conducting code reviews, design reviews, testing, and debugging activities at the application level
• Providing technical oversight and coaching to resolve complex technical issues
• Participating in disaster recovery activities and contributing to disaster recovery planning
• Embedding data quality protocols throughout data acquisition, processing, storage, and operational use

Requirements:

• 4-8 years of software development experience building scalable and distributed applications
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a passion for engineering excellence
• Experience working in Agile teams and collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders
• Self-driven individual with a strong sense of ownership and accountability
• Passion for learning new technologies and applying them to solve business problems

Must-have skills:

• Java 17+ (Advanced proficiency in Java development)
• Microservices Architecture (Designing, developing, and managing scalable microservices)
• Spring Boot or Micronaut (Experience with JVM-based frameworks, including reactive programming)
• Messaging Systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ)
• Databases (Experience with NoSQL databases like Cassandra, MongoDB, and SQL-based databases like PostgreSQL)
• CI/CD (Building and managing pipelines with Jenkins, GitLab, or similar tools)
• Unit and Integration Testing (Spock, JUnit, Mockito, Selenium)
• Cloud Services (AWS, GCP, Azure - At least one)
• Containerization and Orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Monitoring & Observability (Grafana, ELK Stack, Prometheus, Datadog)
• Event-Driven Architecture (Knowledge of event-driven patterns in distributed systems)
• Experience developing modern web applications using ReactJS and TypeScript
• Experience integrating Generative AI and AI-powered capabilities into enterprise applications
• Familiarity with Model Context Protocol (MCP) and modern AI integration patterns

Good-to-have skills:

• Agile Methodologies (Familiar with Scrum, Kanban, or other agile processes)
• Functional Programming (Familiarity with functional programming paradigms in Kotlin)
• Knowledge of AI application evaluation, observability, governance, and guardrail frameworks
• Exposure to Spring AI or similar frameworks for building AI-enabled enterprise solutions
