Description
General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT), located in Pawcatuck, CT, is seeking a Maintenance Trades Helper - Welder Trainee. The successful candidate will apply basic welding processes to join, surface, fabricate, or repair parts of metal or other weldable materials.
Job Qualifications:
- 0-2 years of related experience
- High School Diploma or GED required; Technical or Vocational Training preferred
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Knowledge of basic welding procedures, geometry, weld shrinkage, welding techniques, and physical properties of metal
- Willingness to invest time and show initiative and quality craftsmanship
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lay out and mark points on parts or subassemblies using rulers, squares, scribes, or templates
- Position pieces to be welded into jigs, holding fixtures, guides, and steps using measuring instruments and hand tools
- Perform work in accordance with established safety procedures
- Read blueprints and drawings and take or read measurements to plan layout and procedures
- Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements
- Set up components for welding according to specifications
- Operate angle grinders to prepare parts for welding
- Align components using calipers, rulers, etc., and clamp pieces
- Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal, or overhead)
- Repair machinery and other components by welding pieces and filling gaps
- Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety

The likely hourly rate for this position is between $15.06 - $20.38.
