Salary

GBP 34,206 - 35,931 per year

Apply on Harrow Council

Description

The London Borough of Harrow is seeking a committed and customer-focused Housing Lettings Officer to manage a wide range of non-complex housing management enquiries and provide timely, accurate information to both residents and colleagues.

As part of the Housing team, the postholder will play a key role in supporting core functions, including signing up new tenants through face-to-face appointments, responding to general enquiries and correspondence, and assisting with day-to-day tenancy management and enforcement.

The successful candidate will actively contribute to promoting community engagement and building positive relationships within Harrow’s diverse communities. This includes carrying out home visits where necessary, facilitating access for essential safety checks such as gas servicing and Electrical Installation Condition Reports (EICR), and ensuring compliance with statutory requirements.

The Housing Lettings Officer will be expected to work proactively, demonstrate strong communication and organisational skills, and maintain a high standard of customer service while supporting the wider objectives of the Housing service.

The role requires regular travel across the borough to conduct home visits, tenant sign-ups, property inspections, and community engagement activities, so the successful candidate must hold a full, clean UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle.

About You

The successful candidate will have:

  • Understanding of housing service delivery, government policy, legislation and equalities related to tenancy management
  • Working knowledge of housing and public sector legislation
  • Knowledge of basic property repairs and maintenance
  • Basic knowledge of welfare benefits
  • Awareness of the needs of minority groups and barriers to accessing services
  • Experience working in a pressured, customer-focused environment
  • Experience working in a diverse environment
  • Experience using problem solving techniques
  • 5 GCSEs (A–C) including English and Maths, or equivalent experience
  • A current clean UK (or equivalent) driving licence.
