Senior / Principal Traffic Engineer

This is an opportunity to join our Local Government Highways and Bridges team based in Exeter, Devon, as a Senior or Principal Traffic Engineer. You will play a vital role in supporting senior team members to deliver projects and helping junior colleagues develop their skills and knowledge.

Key responsibilities include:

• Leading on Traffic Engineering projects, managing all aspects of delivery from technical order production to compliant placement of infrastructure signage
• Acting as a Technical Design Lead and Project Manager to deliver projects that help safeguard the future of the local transport network
• Line managing people in the Communities Highways team and providing guidance and mentoring for junior staff
• Preparing and reviewing reports, drawings, schedules, and other documents in accordance with local procedures and guidance
• Coordinating and communicating with multi-disciplinary supporting teams, clients, and stakeholders
• Working directly with clients to deliver projects collaboratively, on time, on budget, and with consistency
• Construction supervision for delivery of schemes

The ideal candidate will have:

• A passion for working on projects that make a real difference to local communities
• Experience and knowledge in developing highway, traffic, and civil engineering projects, especially those delivering sustainable and active travel benefits
• A proven ability to manage projects and individuals, prioritize tasks, achieve deadlines, and work with minimal supervision
• Good spoken and written communication skills, with the ability to liaise with public sector officials, members of the public, and other senior colleagues
• Good working knowledge of the UK TSRDG 2016 and associated Traffic Act
• Ideally Chartered or Incorporated Professional status, but applicants with experience and working towards professional qualification will be considered
• Experience in using GIS mapping software products would be advantageous
