Description
The Payments Risk Engineering team at PayPal is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to strengthen the risk prevention and mitigation systems that protect PayPal and its customers from fraud.
As a Senior Software Engineer, you will deliver complete solutions spanning all phases of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), including design, implementation, testing, delivery, and operations. You will advise immediate management on project-level issues, guide junior engineers, and operate with little day-to-day supervision, making technical decisions based on knowledge of internal conventions and industry best practices.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing, developing, and testing features and services for risk applications
- Working with product managers in an agile setting to deliver high-quality solutions on time
- Partnering with developers, product, design, and analytics teams to explore new ideas and opportunities
- Keeping services highly available and reliable
- Participating in code reviews to maintain code quality
- Contributing to the automated test suite to enable fast, reliable continuous integration
- Communicating clearly with non-technical stakeholders
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline with 4-6 years of experience
- Strong applied experience in building, breaking, and rebuilding software
- Proficiency in back-end development with Java EE technologies (Java, application servers, servlet containers, JMS, JPA)
- Strong object-oriented programming skills and the ability to turn requirements into scalable designs
- Experience designing and building REST APIs and web services or microservices in a commercial setting
- Experience with design patterns, MVC, and frameworks such as Spring
- Experience with service-oriented architectures and scalable, distributed Java services
- Skill in designing for reliability, availability, scalability, and performance
- Familiarity with engineering tools and practices such as Java build tools, unit testing, test automation, and CI
- Strong communication skills
