Applications Engineering Engineer

We are seeking an early-career engineer who is curious about how digital chips are implemented and eager to build hands-on expertise in ASIC physical design. As an Applications Engineering Engineer at Synopsys, you will provide hands-on technical support for customers using Synopsys Design Implementation and Verification tools.

You will work directly with customers using tools that shape how chips get built, and the problems you solve will matter. Your responsibilities will include:

• Providing hands-on technical support for customers using Synopsys Design Implementation and Verification tools, including troubleshooting issues in physical design flows like floorplanning, placement, CTS, routing, and timing closure
• Taking ownership of customer technical cases from initial investigation through resolution, debugging tool behavior, analyzing design data, and working with customers to deploy solutions
• Collaborating with R&D engineering teams across regions to escalate complex issues, communicate customer requirements, and validate fixes or new features before deployment
• Building and maintaining strong relationships with customers by proactively following up on open issues, understanding their design challenges, and ensuring they get the most out of Synopsys tools
• Working with Synopsys Fusion Compiler, ICC2, and related signoff tools to help customers optimize their implementation methodologies and improve design outcomes
• Creating and refining technical documentation, application notes, and best practices based on real customer engagements and lessons learned in the field

• Build trust and long-term partnerships with customers in the region, expanding Synopsys's technical footprint and customer satisfaction scores
• Help customers achieve better PPA (power, performance, area) outcomes by optimizing their use of physical design and verification flows
• Contribute to a global knowledge base that helps Application Engineers worldwide solve problems faster and more effectively
• Strengthen Synopsys's reputation as a company that does not just sell tools but stands behind them with world-class technical support

Requirements:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field
• Understanding of ASIC physical design and implementation methodologies, including floorplanning, placement, clock tree synthesis, routing, and static timing analysis
• Working knowledge of Verilog and digital design fundamentals
• Comfort with Linux or Unix environments and scripting in Tcl, Python, Perl, or Shell
• Strong English communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to customers and internal teams
• Exposure to Synopsys Fusion Compiler, ICC2, or related signoff tools is a strong plus
• Application Engineering experience supporting implementation flows or customer-facing technical roles is a plus
