We are seeking a Manager, Data Scientist - Optimization to join our Retail Bank team at Capital One. As a Data Scientist, you will be part of a team leading the next wave of disruption using the latest computing and machine learning technologies.
Team Description
The Retail Bank team is a high-performing modeling and analytics team focused on defining the next generation of banking. We use the latest machine learning and distributed computing technologies to build data products that enable automation and informed decision-making.
Role Description
In this role, you will:
- Collaborate with Product Managers and Business Analysts to design in-market experiments and validate assumptions.
- Formulate and solve complex problems by translating business challenges into structured mathematical problems.
- Design and implement optimization models to improve decision-making.
- Build and deploy scalable models using Python and commercial/open-source solvers.
- Integrate optimization engines into existing software systems and workflows.
- Develop machine learning models throughout the development lifecycle.

- Is comfortable with open-source languages and has experience with data science solutions.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree plus 6 years of experience in data analytics, or Master's degree plus 4 years of experience, or PhD plus 1 year of experience.
- At least 2 years of experience with open-source programming languages for large-scale data analysis.
- At least 2 years of experience with machine learning.
- At least 2 years of experience with relational databases.
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD in a STEM field plus 2 years of experience in data analytics.
- Experience working with AWS.
- Experience with Python, Scala, or R for large-scale data analysis.
- Experience with machine learning and numerical optimization.
- Track record of optimizing business outcomes and decision systems.
Salary Information
The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are:
- McLean, VA: $197,300 - $225,100
- New York, NY: $215,200 - $245,600
