Senior Analyst: AI Growth and Economic Preparedness

Description

At DSIT we're all about improving people's lives by maximising the potential of science & technology.

We accelerate innovation, investment and productivity through world-class science, research and development.

We use technology for good by ensuring new and existing technologies are safely developed and deployed across the UK, with the benefits more widely shared.

We are driving forward a modern digital government which gives citizens a more satisfying experience and their time back.

We do all this to enable the Government's 5 national missions: kickstarting economic growth, making Britain a clean energy superpower, taking back our streets, breaking down barriers to opportunity and building an NHS fit for the future.

Above all, we focus on improving people's lives. Whether it's researching new treatments for disease, developing better batteries, reducing burdens through better public services, keeping children safe online, and much more, outcomes for citizens are at the heart of what we do.

AI is one of the defining issues of our time. Sitting at the heart of the government's response to it, the AI Growth and Economic Preparedness (AIGE) Analysis Team provides expert analysis to shape key decisions. The team works to support the UK economy's preparation for AI. We model the implications of future economic and geopolitical scenarios, examine the technologies, infrastructure and markets that make up the AI stack, and analyse the economic forces shaping different outcomes. We bring this evidence together to inform policies that prepare the UK's AI sector and wider economy for different futures. We also develop evidence to support AI adoption, innovation and growth.

As a Senior Analyst, you will provide analytical leadership on AI adoption, growth and economic preparedness, working closely with other analysts and the AI Growth and Economic Preparedness policy team. You will identify where evidence is missing or insufficient, judge which gaps matter most for policy decisions, and develop and lead analytical work to address them.

Your portfolio will depend on team priorities and your skills and experience. Examples of work you may lead include:

  • AI innovation, sector growth and economic preparedness: Developing evidence on the UK AI sector and the wider economy's preparedness for AI.
  • AI adoption and business behaviour: Understanding how businesses make decisions about AI, the barriers they face and the organisational changes needed to use it effectively.
  • AI adoption and economic impacts: Developing evidence on how AI affects productivity, growth, jobs and skills, combining economic and statistical analysis with research on businesses' and workers' experiences.
  • Policy design, delivery and evaluation: Assessing what support businesses need and how interventions work in practice.

In addition to these core projects, you will sometimes be required to reprioritise and provide analytical support in emerging priority areas. The role therefore requires flexibility and the ability to work at pace.

The Department for Science, Innovation and Technology offers a competitive mix of benefits including:

  • A culture of flexible working, such as job sharing, homeworking and compressed hours.
  • Automatic enrolment into the Civil Service Pension Scheme, with an employer contribution of 28.97%.
  • A minimum of 25 days of paid annual leave, increasing by 1 day per year up to a maximum of 30.
  • An extensive range of learning & professional development opportunities, which all staff are actively encouraged to pursue.
  • Access to a range of retail, travel and lifestyle employee discounts.
