Description
Paddle is looking for a Head of Data Science to build its data science capability from the ground up. The successful candidate will own automated decisioning inside the product, focusing on machine learning and agentic systems. The role involves prioritizing opportunities, delivering the first system end-to-end, operating deployed systems, and building a team.
Responsibilities:
- Prioritize opportunities with the biggest impact across payment performance, revenue recovery, sales and marketing operations, growth and monetization intelligence, and risk, trust and compliance.
- Deliver the first system end-to-end, including analysis, feature engineering, model training, deployment, and testing.
- Operate deployed systems, ensuring uptime, monitoring, retraining, and incident handling.
- Work across traditional ML and agentic systems.
- Build and lead a team of data scientists and machine learning engineers.
- Establish a production stack for reproducible training data, model registry, inference services, and monitoring.
- Own value capture end-to-end, including shadow testing, A/B testing, and publishing quarterly reports.
- Set the governance model for automated decisioning, working with Legal, Privacy, Compliance, and Risk.
- Define boundaries and working relationships with Product Science, Analytics Engineering, Data Platform, and AI Enablement.
Requirements:
- Experience leading data science or ML teams with deployments that moved commercial metrics.
- Hands-on experience with SQL, Python, and engineering features.
- Experience across traditional ML and agentic systems.
- Practice running live systems, monitoring, retraining, and incident response.
- Ability to hire, level, and develop senior data scientists and ML engineers.
- Credible with executives and commercial stakeholders.
- Experience in payments, fintech, subscriptions, or high-volume commercial operations.
