Description
Anthropic's mission depends on compute, and compute depends on power. The energy team sources, structures, and contracts that power, touching nearly every part of the company and a growing set of people outside it.
We are looking for someone to join the energy team in a special projects role: to take on problems that don't sit inside any one deal or region, and to carry them wherever they lead. This involves working in three circles: Inside Compute, Across Anthropic, and Outside the company.
Inside Compute:
- Work with the head of energy to pick up cross-functional problems, work them with involved teams to a decision, process, or tool, then hand them off.
- Connect energy commercial leads with site selection, data center design, delivery, operations, and finance.
- Write strategy documents, decision memos, and leadership updates.
- Build processes and tools to keep the team's commitments, open decisions, and stakeholder record current.
- Run the team's planning rhythm: priorities, headcount plan, consultant roster, and follow-up on open decisions.
Across Anthropic:
- Be the energy team's first point of contact for other teams, ensuring fast and accurate answers.
- Serve as an energy subject matter expert for the policy team.
- Provide plain answers on what a site's power supply means for local rates, reliability, and emissions.
- Keep what we sign and what we say in public consistent.
- Prepare energy team leaders and executives for outside meetings.
Outside the company:
- Represent the energy team in industry working groups, trade associations, and research collaborations.
- Engage with FERC, state commissions, agencies, and legislatures on issues affecting our portfolio.
- Build and keep relationships with utilities, grid operators, regulators' staff, and counterparts at other large-load customers.
- Manage outside counsel, consultants, and analysts.
Requirements:
- 6+ years in energy policy, energy markets, or energy strategy.
- Experience building coalitions among complex stakeholder groups.
- Ability to run projects to completion across teams.
- Understanding of tariffs, energy services agreements, and FERC orders.
- Knowledge of state commissions and RTO or ISO stakeholder processes.
- Strong writing and communication skills.
- Good judgment about public statements.
- Comfortable with unscoped work and switching between different problems.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience with data centers or large loads.
- Commercial experience in utility service agreements or PPAs.
- Time in a chief of staff, strategy, or consulting role.
- Direct experience in a FERC or state commission proceeding.
- Familiarity with gas as well as power.
The annual compensation range for this role is $1-$2 USD.
