Description
Visa's Middleware Product Reliability Engineering (PRE) team in Austin is hiring a Staff Software Engineer to help lead our evolution from traditional operations into a modern, AI-driven software engineering organization.
This role involves designing and shipping production-grade automation, mentoring engineers, driving architectural decisions, and contributing to agentic AI initiatives that transform how we operate critical infrastructure. Your code will run at global scale, processing billions of transactions daily across 200+ countries.
Responsibilities:
- Design & Build at Scale: Design and develop middleware reliability solutions with limited guidance, producing extensible, maintainable code used across products, and leading design reviews.
- Engineer the Future with Agentic AI: Build intelligent automation systems leveraging AI/ML and LLM frameworks, collaborate with teams to integrate AI-driven insights, and identify opportunities for automation.
- Lead Production Excellence: Respond to complex incidents, participate in on-call rotations, and use advanced monitoring and observability to detect issues.
- Mentor & Multiply: Lead junior engineers, drive code reviews, and teach others about tooling, automation, and reliability practices.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor's degree or 2+ years with an Advanced degree.
- Proficiency in Python, Java, or Go, with strong foundations in data structures, algorithms, systems design, and software development lifecycle.
- Experience with DevOps tools and CI/CD pipelines, cloud platforms, and containerization concepts.
