Salary

£39,959 to £48,117 a year

Apply on NHS Blood and Transplant

Description

As a Digital Developer working within the Organ and Tissue Donation and Transplantation Product Centre (OTDT PC) at NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT), you will use your technical expertise to develop and improve digital services that support our vital work.

Working across the full software development lifecycle, you will design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and support applications and databases used across NHSBT. You will tackle complex technical challenges, work with colleagues to understand their needs, and turn those needs into effective digital solutions. The focus of this role is on cloud technologies. Our primary software is Azure, so an understanding of DevOps, Storage, API Manager, App Services, Key Vaults and log analysis is preferable.

You will also explore new technologies, share your expertise with colleagues, and help integrate new solutions with existing systems. This is an opportunity to contribute your technical skills to meaningful work, while continuing to learn, innovate, and develop within a specialist digital environment.

Main duties of the job

  • Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and support applications, information systems, and database services that help NHSBT deliver its services effectively.
  • Take ownership across the software development lifecycle, using your expertise to find effective solutions to complex technical challenges.
  • Work with colleagues to understand requirements, explore opportunities for improvement, and turn business needs into practical digital solutions.
  • Maintain existing applications and ensure changes are supported by appropriate documentation and change controls.
  • Help integrate new digital solutions with existing NHSBT systems, working collaboratively with suppliers and colleagues.
  • Explore emerging tools, technologies, and industry best practice, helping NHSBT make informed use of new approaches.
  • Identify technical constraints, dependencies, and delivery risks, and take appropriate action to support successful delivery.
  • Share your knowledge through training and knowledge transfer, helping colleagues learn and develop their technical capability.
  • Contribute your expertise to the development of software, database, and Digital Services strategies.

What we offer:

  • Hybrid working arrangements – because NHSBT works nationally, we’re able to offer hybrid working options that give you more flexibility to balance work with life.
  • Flexible working options – we promote flexible working where the role allows.
  • Generous annual leave - 27 days annual leave (pro rata for part-time) plus Bank Holidays, increasing to 29 days after 5 years’ service and to 33 days after 10 years.
  • Inclusive pension scheme - the NHS Pension Scheme is a defined benefit scheme.
  • Supportive learning culture - we’ve fostered a culture of continuous learning where colleagues are well-led, engaged, and encouraged to grow.
