Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing embedded software structures, interfaces, and behaviours for airborne systems
  • Providing hands-on technical leadership throughout software development
  • Developing and evaluating conceptual flight software architectures
  • Identifying relevant standards, practices, and processes
  • Collaborating with software developers, program teams, and corporate technical leadership
  • Maintaining accountability for the technical integrity of assigned architectures and designs
  • Advising Software IPT Leads, Technical Leads, and Test Leads on approaches for software project execution
  • Collaborating with systems engineers to model and maintain software architectures using model-based systems engineering techniques
  • Assisting electrical designers with the formulation of solutions and trade studies
  • Supporting working groups and consortia with software architecture expertise
  • Participating in Agile planning and writing epics and high-level stories
  • Participating in requirements and design reviews
  • Contributing solutions, software architectures, and evidence-based estimates to proposals

  • Extensive knowledge of disciplined software engineering practices
  • Strong competency in formulating and expressing software architectures using industry-recognised design techniques or notations
  • Ability to evaluate software architectures against functional requirements, system-level quality attributes, performance constraints, integration risks, and lifecycle considerations
  • Competency with one or more architectural design patterns, detailed design patterns, and object-oriented design principles
  • Familiarity with one or more embedded processor architectures and their application in microcontrollers, systems-on-chip, or similar implementations
  • Substantial knowledge of design considerations for performance-constrained and real-time embedded systems
  • Strong competency in at least one relevant embedded programming language (C, C++, or Rust)
  • Aptitude with one or more architecture tools/IDEs
  • Strong quantitative, analytical, technical leadership, and communication skills

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Experience with one or more Government Reference Architectures
  • Experience with applicable industry standards, frameworks, and process models
