We are seeking a full-time Portuguese Interpreter & Translator to join our team at Millennium Translations Ltd in Manchester.
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing interpretation and translation services in various settings, including mental health, healthcare, and legal sectors.
Main Requirements
- Possess a full UK driver's license and access to their own vehicle.
- Provide a current, valid Enhanced CRB clearance.
- Have references to verify interpreting and translation experience.
- Be fluent in English and culturally competent and fluent in Portuguese.
Role of an Interpreter & Translator The role involves consecutive interpretation and translation of documents, ensuring accurate conveyance of the original meaning.
Interpretation Responsibilities
- Interpret in various settings, including mental health, GP practices, hospitals, dental practices, police settings, court proceedings, local authorities, schools, councils, solicitors, education, and health and social services sectors.
- Interpret verbal communications in real-time into Portuguese, paying attention to context, meaning, tone, and technical wording.
- Consult reference works to keep up-to-date with terminology and acquire specialist knowledge when needed.
- Attend booked assignments, drive to and from assignments, and adhere to high standards of professional behavior, maintaining confidentiality and following the Interpreter Code of Conduct.
Requirements
- Qualifications in interpreting, translation, or linguistics, such as MA, BA, DPSI, or Community Interpreting Certificate.
- Minimum of one year's professional experience, with references required to verify experience.
- Minimum of 200 hours previous experience working as an interpreter, ideally within the public sector.
- At least two references for previous completed projects relating to professional translation specialism.
