Description

The Outshift by Cisco team is one of Cisco's most visible innovation organizations, driving the next generation of transformative technologies and business opportunities. You will collaborate with some of the company's most forward-thinking researchers, engineers, and technology leaders. Our multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers is dedicated to advancing the state of the art in quantum networking, distributed quantum systems, and quantum-enabled applications.

The embodied AI team works across robotics orchestration, navigation, perception, and manipulation spanning cloud/edge model orchestration, world models, and mobile robot platforms. We're looking to add a researcher with a strong general foundation in computer vision and machine learning who can contribute broadly across these research threads rather than a single narrow specialty.

Responsibilities:

  • Research and prototype learning-based approaches to perception, planning, and control for embodied agents and robots.
  • Collaborate with team members working on orchestration, navigation, and manipulation to bring computer vision and ML expertise to their systems.
  • Evaluate and adapt pioneering vision and ML models for real-world robotics use cases.
  • Contribute to publications and/or patents as the team builds out its embodied AI research portfolio.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a closely related field.
  • 1+ year relevant research experience (industry, postdoctoral, or equivalent).
  • Experience in computer vision and/or machine learning, with experience using deep learning frameworks (e.g. PyTorch, TensorFlow).
  • Experience in one or more of the following languages (C++, Java, Python)
  • Experience delivering research outcomes through peer-reviewed publications, patents, prototypes, or other measurable technical contributions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Exposure to robotics systems, simulation environments, or real-world robot deployment.
  • Familiarity with reinforcement learning, generative models, or multimodal / vision-language-action models.
  • Experience collaborating across a multi-disciplinary research team.

Benefits:

  • Medical, dental and vision insurance
  • 401(k) plan with a Cisco matching contribution
  • Paid parental leave
  • Short and long-term disability coverage
  • Basic life insurance
  • 10 paid holidays per full calendar year, plus 1 floating holiday for non-exempt employees
  • 1 paid day off for employee's birthday, paid year-end holiday shutdown, and 4 paid days off for personal wellness
  • Non-exempt employees receive 16 days of paid vacation time per full calendar year
  • Exempt employees participate in Cisco's flexible vacation time off program
  • 80 hours of sick time off provided on hire date and each January 1st thereafter
  • Optional 10 paid days per full calendar year to volunteer
