Description
As a Senior Engineer at Target, you will serve as a specialist in the engineering team that supports the product. You will help develop and gain insight in the application architecture, distill abstract architecture into concrete design, and influence implementation.
You will be contributing to building a scalable in-store digital signage solution that enhances the guest experience, elevates brand storytelling, and drives measurable business outcomes.
Key responsibilities:
- Design, deploy, configure, and troubleshoot Linux/Ubuntu-based systems supporting in-store digital marketing, AV, display, and field technology environments.
- Provide advanced Linux/Ubuntu engineering support, including OS configuration, drivers, services, networking, device management, application deployment, logging, and root-cause troubleshooting.
- Work comfortably in Linux environments to manage services, permissions, processes, networking, logs, packages, storage, and application configuration.
- Understand and troubleshoot complete audio/video signal flow, tracing a source through media players, PCs, switchers, extenders, distribution equipment, cabling, converters, and displays to isolate failures.
- Engineer and support video and display technologies, including commercial LCD/LED displays, video walls, direct-view LED, digital signage players, controllers, and related processing hardware.
- Maintain strong working knowledge of HDMI, DisplayPort, HDBaseT, USB-C, EDID, HDCP, resolution, refresh rate, color space, scaling, and signal-conversion technologies.
- Diagnose complex display issues such as no signal, intermittent video, resolution mismatches, EDID/HDCP failures, image scaling problems, synchronization issues, cable-distance limitations, and hardware compatibility problems.
- Integrate AV systems with IP networks, including troubleshooting addressing, VLANs, DHCP/DNS, routing, remote management, and network-connected media or display devices.
- Provide field engineering support for new installations, pilots, upgrades, and break/fix efforts, including system commissioning, validation, documentation, standards development, and escalation support for technicians and deployment teams.
- Serve as a technical subject-matter expert who can move between software, operating systems, networking, AV hardware, cabling, and physical display systems, identify the actual failure domain, and drive issues through resolution with vendors and cross-functional engineering teams.
