Description
This is an exciting opportunity to join Hackney Council, an innovative and forward-thinking local authority committed to pioneering initiatives that enhance resident safety.
We are seeking a dedicated, personable, and proactive professional to lead resident engagement within our Building Safety team. You will be supported by a strong team of building safety, compliance, and fire safety professionals. If you are passionate about giving residents a voice in the safety of their homes and enjoy building trust with communities, this role is for you.
The Role
Hackney Council is committed to ensuring residents are informed, consulted, and actively involved in decisions about the safety of their buildings. The Resident Engagement Officer will act as the primary point of contact between the Building Safety team and residents living in our higher-risk buildings, supporting compliance with the Building Safety Act 2022, the Fire Safety Act, and wider building and fire safety legislation.
The postholder will be responsible for developing and delivering our resident engagement strategies, coordinating dedicated building safety resident meetings and ensuring residents’ views are captured and fed into Building Safety Case decisions and the ‘golden thread’ of information. They will work closely with internal teams including the Building Safety Manager, Special Projects Manager, Fire Safety Team, repairs and directly with residents to ensure communication is clear, accessible, and responsive throughout.
About You
You will have significant experience engaging with residents or communities, ideally within housing, local government, or a related public-facing environment, with a strong understanding of resident engagement principles and an interest in building and fire safety. Experience within a local authority or similar organisation is highly beneficial, as you will be liaising with a wide range of stakeholders and acting as a key point of contact for residents on safety matters.
What We Offer
We offer hybrid working, providing the flexibility to work from home and our Hackney Central offices, allowing you to manage your workload around resident meetings and site visits.
Desired Requirements
- Experience in resident engagement, community engagement, or customer-facing work within housing or a related sector.
- Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, the Building Safety Act and its requirements around resident engagement.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical or complex information in a clear and accessible way.
- Highly organised, empathetic, and able to manage multiple resident relationships and engagement activities across the housing portfolio.
