Hewlett Packard Enterprise is the global edge-to-cloud company advancing the way people live and work. We help companies connect, protect, analyze, and act on their data and applications wherever they live, from edge to cloud, so they can turn insights into outcomes at the speed required to thrive in today’s complex world.

As a Security Operations Engineer at HPE, you will be responsible for Web Application and API Protection (WAAP) administration. You will serve as a technical lead for the administration, optimization, and continuous improvement of the WAAP platform to protect web applications and APIs from cyber threats while partnering with application, infrastructure, and security teams to enhance the organization's security posture.

Responsibilities

  • Administering, maintaining, and optimizing the Web Application and API Protection (WAAP) platform, including web application firewall (WAF), API security, bot protection, and DDoS mitigation capabilities.
  • Monitoring and analyzing application traffic to identify, investigate, and mitigate security threats targeting internet-facing applications and APIs.
  • Configuring, tuning, and maintaining WAF policies, security rules, signatures, and exceptions to maximize protection while minimizing false positives.
  • Partnering with application development, infrastructure, and cloud engineering teams to securely onboard and protect new applications and APIs.
  • Reviewing security events, alerts, and logs to investigate suspicious activity and support incident response efforts.
  • Performing traffic analysis and troubleshooting to resolve application availability, performance, and security issues.
  • Conducting security assessments of web applications and APIs and providing recommendations to remediate identified risks and vulnerabilities.
  • Developing and maintaining operational documentation, standard operating procedures, and configuration standards for WAAP technologies.
  • Supporting the implementation of bot management, account takeover protection, and API security controls to address evolving threats.
  • Integrating WAAP technologies with SIEM, SOAR, and other security monitoring platforms to improve visibility and response capabilities.
  • Participating in change management processes and performing testing and validation of security policy updates before production deployment.
  • Collaborating with security architecture and application security teams to continuously improve the organization’s application security posture.

Success Outcomes

  • Critical applications and APIs are onboarded to WAAP and protected by appropriate WAF, API security, bot mitigation, and DDoS controls.
  • Application onboarding is faster, repeatable, and supported by clear standards and ownership.
  • Security policies maintain strong protection while keeping false positives and disruption to legitimate traffic within agreed thresholds.
  • API security controls are applied consistently across relevant environments, with gaps identified and remediated.
  • WAAP-related incidents and misconfigurations are resolved quickly, with minimal impact on application availability.
  • Repeatable monitoring, runbooks, dashboards, and automation reduce manual effort and improve operational response.
  • Leadership has clear visibility of platform coverage, control effectiveness, operational performance, and risk reduction.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience, is desired.
  • 6+ years of cybersecurity experience, with a focus on web application security, network security, and cybersecurity engineering functions, desired.
  • Proven experience in Web Application Firewall (WAF) / Web Application and API Protection (WAAP) technologies.
  • Strong understanding of web application security concepts, including the OWASP Top 10 and common web-based attack techniques.
  • Experience analyzing HTTP/S traffic, web application logs, and security events.
  • Experience working with API technologies, including REST, JSON, OAuth, JWT, and API authentication mechanisms.
  • Experience supporting security monitoring, threat detection, incident response, or vulnerability management activities.

Desired

  • Experience administering Imperva WAAP, Imperva WAF, or other enterprise WAAP solutions.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Experience with bot mitigation, API security, and DDoS protection technologies.
