Staff Systems Engineer - Payload Lead

Anduril Industries is a defense technology company with a mission to transform U.S. and allied military capabilities with advanced technology.

The Maneuver Dominance team is building Thunder - an autonomous attack rotorcraft built to fight alongside crewed combat aviation to deliver overwhelming mass effects deep beyond the front lines.

As a Staff Systems Engineer, you will support payloads integration for the Thunder team.

Responsibilities

• Drive the perception system architecture and requirements baseline
• Own the sensor suite baseline and its configuration across platforms
• Set and defend the sensing performance model
• Drive the verification and validation strategy for perception
• Provide technical authority at design and gate reviews
• Lead sensor trades that resolve real forks
• Drive modularity and reuse so that perception ports across platforms
• Set the sensing engineering practice that others inherit
• Own perception in the air
• Represent Anduril externally as a technical authority on airborne sensing

Required Qualifications

• B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Optics, Physics, Computer Science, Robotics, Aerospace, or a similar field
• 5+ years of engineering experience on electro-optical, LiDAR, RADAR, or comparable sensing systems
• Demonstrated depth in multi-modal sensor architecture and sensor selection
• Demonstrated experience owning system architecture and interface definition for a sensing system
• Ability to exercise extremely high ownership over a complex system
• Demonstrated experience specifying and verifying sensing performance quantitatively
• Working command of electro-optical, LiDAR, and/or RADAR system engineering fundamentals
• Outstanding written and verbal communication
• Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a US Top Secret security clearance

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with learned perception in a safety relevant system
• Experience with embedded compute and SWaP-C budgeting for airborne perception
• Experience with environmental qualification of airborne sensors
• Experience transitioning a capability out of development and into a delivery program or product line
• Experience as a technical lead or principal investigator
• Experience with requirements management tooling such as Jama
• Participation in a standards or industry body relevant to airborne sensing or airspace integration
