Description
We are looking for a driven Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) Intern who is ready for an immersive, real-world finance experience at a fast-growing company.
Working alongside our full-time FP&A Analysts and under the supervision of the FP&A Manager, you will help turn financial and operational data into the forecasts, models, and reporting that leadership uses to make decisions.
What does a typical day look like for a Financial Planning and Analysis intern?
- Assist with preparing and distributing financial analysis and reporting packages, and analyze information related to current performance versus budget and forecast
- Work with other Financial Analysts to prepare sensitivity analyses on the impact to revenue, expenses, and profitability by modeling changes in key variables
- Develop detailed financial forecasts of the financial statements, incorporating key financial and operational metrics
- Pull, clean, and reconcile financial and operational data from multiple sources, and ensure the numbers in your models and reports tie out
- Perform variance analysis, investigate the drivers behind the numbers, and summarize your findings for the FP&A team in a clear, concise way
- Support month-end, quarterly, and annual budgeting and forecasting cycles with updates to models and supporting schedules
- Build and refine reporting and dashboards that track key financial and operational metrics, and look for ways to make recurring reports more scalable and automated
- Document model assumptions, methodologies, and processes so that your work can be reviewed, understood, and reused by others
- Own a project or analysis during your internship and present your findings and recommendations to the FP&A team
What will I need to thrive in this role?
- Junior or Senior in college working toward a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or another related field
- Foundational knowledge of accounting and finance principles, including the three financial statements and how they connect
- Analytical and financial modeling skills preferred
- Confident in Excel, VBA, MS Office, and Google Sheets skills
- Familiarity with Cloud-based planning systems, NetSuite and Tableau preferred
- Knowledge of how to work with large amounts of data to develop scalable financial reporting solutions
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a habit of asking "why" behind the numbers and checking your work before you share it
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy, especially when working with large volumes of financial data
- Outstanding communication and organization abilities, including the ability to explain financial concepts and findings clearly to non-finance teammates and to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Handle sensitive and confidential financial information with honesty and integrity
- Collaboration, receptiveness to feedback, and eagerness to learn
What does high performance look like?
- You follow through with all assignments in a timely manner
- You give 100% to all tasks and projects you are given
- You will take full ownership of your projects and follow through to completion
- Your models and reports are accurate, clearly documented, and trusted by the people who rely on them
- You go beyond the numbers: you explain what is driving the results and recommend a clear next step
- You spot issues and risks early and bring forward solutions, not just problems
- You look for ways to automate or simplify recurring analyses and manual work
- You ask thoughtful questions, seek out feedback, and apply it quickly
What is my potential for career growth?
- This role will provide opportunities for mentorship and networking. You will build hands-on experience in financial modeling, forecasting, and business analysis that translates directly to careers in corporate finance, FP&A, and strategic finance. It could also lead to a potential full-time job following excellent performance throughout the internship.
