Description
Leidos Defense Systems is seeking a talented Senior Electrical Engineer - Hardware Design to join its team to create unique solutions for complex problems. The Electrical Systems Department is a design-focused group of engineers specializing in advanced hardware-based solutions.
The selected candidate will be expected to execute in a fast-paced, small team environment through all phases of the product life cycle from concept development and detailed design through manufacturing, qualification testing, and post-delivery support. The engineer will be responsible for architecting, implementing, and testing printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) including power supply, mixed-signal, FPGA, and microcontroller designs.
Additional skills such as signal integrity analysis, power distribution network design, high-speed digital (10 GigE+) design, RF design, or basic VHDL proficiency are a plus. The individual is also expected to actively partner with other engineers, project managers, technicians, and the customer to develop solutions that adhere to a diverse set of requirements.
The engineer will support resolution of technical issues that are discovered during the manufacture and test of deliverable products. This will include troubleshooting board-level issues, assessing failures for root cause, and identifying corrective actions.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited institution.
- 8+ years experience in electronics design and test from architecture through implementation.
- Advanced knowledge of digital/analog/mixed signal electronics, components, and interface/communication standards.
- Expertise in digital PCB design and troubleshooting including embedded processor, microcontroller, or FPGA-based designs.
- Proven experience in design, test, troubleshooting, and manufacture of complex multi-layer electronic circuit card assemblies.
- Hands-on laboratory experience with instrumentation, test equipment, and debug/test methods.
- Experience with technical problem solving and root cause analysis.
- Ability to decompose system-level considerations (i.e. requirements) to lower design levels.
- Ability to interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and system block diagrams.
- Demonstrated experience effectively communicating within a team environment.
- Resident of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to the Huntsville - North Alabama, AL area.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited university.
- Experience and/or working knowledge of:
- Multiple high-speed serial communication standards and memory interfaces (e.g. GigE, 10 GigE, Aurora, DDR2, DDR3, DDR4, JESD204B, PCIe, SATA).
- High-speed design analysis tools such as HyperLynx.
- Rigid-flex, microvia, blind via, and buried via printed circuit board design.
- Switched-mode power supply (SMPS) design.
- Siemens electrical engineering development tools (formerly Mentor Graphics).
- Altium electrical engineering development tools.
Security Requirements:
- US Citizen and possess (and be able to maintain) a Final Secret Clearance or meet the eligibility to obtain (and maintain) a Secret Clearance.
