Description

The Eye Ward at Ashford, St Peter's and Woking hospitals is seeking experienced and motivated Staff Nurses to join the team. As a Staff Nurse, you will be responsible for providing high-quality care to patients with various eye conditions, such as cataracts and glaucoma. The department offers specialist training, professional development, flexible working, and other NHS staff benefits.

The successful candidate will have strong assessment and decision-making skills, be able to recognise emergencies, and act quickly to ensure patient safety. Excellent communication skills are essential, as you will be communicating with patients, providing them with essential information surrounding their upcoming surgery and clinical diagnosis. You will also be supporting other junior nurses and healthcare support workers in their role and assisting in their training.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Working autonomously within the Eye Ward
  • Communicating effectively with patients and the multidisciplinary team
  • Providing safe custody and administration of medication
  • Taking charge of the Unit in the absence of the Eye Unit Sister or their deputies

The Eye Unit operates five days a week, and successful candidates need to be able to work different shift patterns covering the Ophthalmology service between the hours of 7:30 am to 7 pm, depending on location.

As a member of the team, you will be expected to:

  • Supervise nursing practice and the delivery of patient care in accordance with NMC Code of Professional Conduct and Trust/Unit policies and procedures
  • Act as an effective role model and demonstrate effective organisational and leadership skills
  • Participate in planning and implementation of quality initiatives and targets
  • Be conversant with current emergency resuscitation techniques and fire regulations and procedures
  • Ensure the safe custody and administration of drugs

The trust offers a range of benefits, including NHS staff benefits and discounts.
