Samsara is looking for a Staff or Senior Firmware Engineer to develop software that runs on millions of devices, deployed by industrial and enterprise customers. The successful candidate will shape the hardware and software that runs on it, bring up new platforms and prototypes, own the layers that determine device reliability, and work with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality solutions.
Responsibilities:
- Shape the hardware and software that runs on it
- Bring up new platforms and prototypes from virgin silicon
- Own the layers that determine device reliability
- Design protocols and hardware management for battery-powered sensors and gateways
- Work with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality solutions
- Lead by example, strengthen engineering practices, and connect technical decisions to customer and business outcomes
Requirements:
- 8+ years building firmware for resource-constrained systems
- Delivered reliable firmware where memory, processing power, energy, and timing are scarce
- Led firmware development for several new products end-to-end
- Substantial bare-metal and RTOS experience
- Fluency in low-level interfaces (SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, ADC)
- Real bench instincts
- Senior-level scope
- Cross-layer judgment
- Fluency in C
- Writes design docs, review comments, and post-mortems
- Ships fast without shipping badly
- Uses AI smartly
Nice to Have:
- BLE at depth
- Cellular IoT (LTE-M or NB-IoT modem integration)
- Securing embedded systems end-to-end
- OTA and device firmware update at fleet scale
- Experience with factory floor processes
