Description

We are seeking a Software Engineer - Java to join our team at FIC & Risk Technology in London.

Millennium is a global, diversified alternative investment firm, founded in 1989. Our mission is to deliver results for our investors.

The Risk Technology team builds and runs the platforms that produce the firm's official VaR, stress, and risk analytics, while also developing the next generation of AI-powered risk tooling.

Responsibilities:

  • Build and ship code by contributing to the design and implementation of features and services, with guidance and code review from senior engineers, and see your work through to production.
  • Learn the domain by ramping up on the codebase and core risk concepts, including VaR, stress, and sensitivities, to take on more responsibility over time.
  • Help build AI-powered risk tooling, including agents, plugins, and integrations that connect large language models to risk data and platforms.
  • Write clean, well-tested Java and Python code, participate in code and design reviews, and help uphold engineering standards and best practices.
  • Collaborate closely with engineers across London, New York, Miami, and Bengaluru, and engage with risk managers, quants, and other technologists as you grow into the role.
  • Help monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve issues across Java and Python services and streaming components to protect data integrity and performance.
  • Bring fresh ideas, adopt AI-assisted development and modern tooling, and continue investing in your growth as an engineer.

Requirements:

  • Up to 3 years of software development experience, or you are a strong recent graduate, with hands-on exposure to Java and/or Python.
  • Solid computer science fundamentals, including object-oriented design, data structures, and algorithms.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field from a leading institution, or equivalent experience.
  • Practical coding experience through academic projects, internships, or early professional work, with clear evidence of building solutions end to end.
  • Interest in AI/ML and large language models, and enthusiasm for building AI-powered applications; hands-on experience through projects, internships, or coursework is a plus.
  • Basic knowledge of relational SQL databases, such as Postgres or SQL Server, and willingness to work on the Unix/Linux command line.
  • Familiarity with Git, along with an eagerness to learn CI/CD, including Jenkins, and modern DevOps practices.
  • Strong communication skills and the confidence to ask questions, seek feedback, and engage in a demanding front-office environment.
  • An entrepreneurial, can-do mindset, with curiosity, initiative, and a genuine eagerness to learn and improve.

Experience with LLMs, event-streaming platforms, distributed systems, TypeScript/JavaScript, Angular, AWS, or financial markets is a plus.
