Staff Software Engineer, Patient Experience

Job Overview

As a Staff Software Engineer, Patient Experience at Pomelo Care, you will serve as the technical lead for how patients interact with Pomelo from enrollment through their entire care journey.

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical direction for mobile development strategy and patient-facing apps.
• Rapidly prototype and ship features in patient mobile and web apps using AI tools.
• Steer product direction for supporting and retaining patients in their critical first month with Pomelo.
• Collaborate with patients, product, design, and clinical teams to turn real needs into features.
• Mentor and grow junior engineers.
• Set technical standards, architecture patterns, and development practices for patient-facing products.

Problems You'll Solve

• Engage patients proactively in their own care.
• Personalize the patient experience to specific needs and interests.
• Build habits for patients to check in with Pomelo first when problems arise.
• Keep patients engaged without direct clinical intervention.

Tech Stack

• Expo + React Native, React, TypeScript, Kotlin, SQL

Requirements

• Deep experience building and shipping consumer or patient-facing products.
• Experience as a technical lead on a team.
• Strong opinions on building great user experiences.
• Comfortable working across the full stack in a startup environment.
• Keeping up with trends in LLM coding agents.

Nice to Have

• Experience with React Native or cross-platform mobile frameworks.
• Building products in healthcare, wellness, or high-trust consumer domains.
• Working on engagement, retention, or onboarding flows.
• Prior experience with AI/ML or building agent-based systems.

The expected base salary range for this role is $220,000 - $260,000.
