Associate Art Director (Apex Legends)

We are seeking an Associate Art Director with a strong focus on high-level concept art to join the Apex Legends team at Respawn Entertainment, a studio within Electronic Arts. In this role, you will help shape and drive the artistic vision across a range of internal and external projects. The position involves 70% hands-on craft and 30% creative leadership and cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with senior directors and leads to establish the artistic vision and quality benchmarks for the team.
• Create high-quality key art, previsualization, and concept designs for characters, environments, weapons, and props.
• Develop and maintain comprehensive style guides, mood boards, and reference materials to articulate the visual style.
• Advocate for franchise goals, identify visual and technical risks, and guide the visual evolution of the universe.
• Mentor and develop team members, providing clear opportunities for growth and career advancement.
• Participate in art department recruiting efforts, including portfolio reviews and candidate interviews.
• Balance IP requirements with creative freedom and align artistic needs with game design and technical constraints.

Requirements:

• 6-8 years of professional concept art experience in the game industry, with a portfolio showcasing expertise in design, composition, anatomy, mechanics, and visual storytelling.
• Proficiency in industry-standard 2D and 3D software, including Photoshop, Blender, and Maya, with a strong emphasis on 2D concept art and previsualization.
• Experience with real-time game engines, asset creation workflows, and external partner pipelines.
• Proven leadership skills, with the ability to deliver and receive constructive feedback and build trust across multidisciplinary teams.
• A proactive and solution-oriented mindset with high standards for team ownership and project delivery.
• A deep enthusiasm for playing and making games, with a passion for the Apex Legends universe and its visual identity.
