Description

Shield AI is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Autonomous Pilot Integration team for Emerging Domains. The team builds autonomy solutions for new platforms and mission profiles outside Shield AI's established portfolios, including space, maritime, and contested logistics.

The successful candidate will develop and integrate autonomy capabilities across various emerging-domain platforms while helping establish autonomy on systems with no existing autonomy baseline. They will work closely with platform teams, the Autonomy Capabilities, Perception, and GCS teams, feature crews, and customer stakeholders to solve complex integration challenges and deliver mission-ready autonomy software.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Standing up new capabilities and establishing autonomy on new platforms and mission areas
  • Developing and integrating autonomy software onto emerging-domain platforms
  • Partnering with platform teams to integrate autonomy capabilities and validate interfaces
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams and partners to deliver integrated autonomy solutions
  • Designing and documenting engineering processes and contributing to design reviews and post-mortems
  • Building, configuring, validating, and preparing mission-ready systems
  • Supporting flight tests, maritime trials, ground testing, customer demonstrations, and operational exercises
  • Diagnosing and resolving integration issues across autonomy software, payload computers, embedded systems, and platform interfaces
  • Capturing mission data, reproducing issues in simulation, and partnering with capability owners to rapidly improve future releases
  • Developing tools and engineering processes to improve integration velocity, testing reliability, and mission readiness
  • Implementing and validating interfaces with command-and-control systems

The role requires:

  • BS/MS in a relevant engineering discipline or equivalent practical experience
  • Typically 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Strong proficiency in C++ and Linux-based development
  • Experience integrating embedded or real-time software systems
  • Experience supporting integration, testing, or operational field events
  • Strong systems-level problem-solving skills
  • Ability to obtain a SECRET clearance

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Experience with autonomous aircraft, maritime systems, spacecraft, or robotics
  • Experience with autonomy software, autopilot integration, or robotics frameworks
  • Python, Docker, or CI/CD experience
  • Experience working in early-stage R&D or rapid prototyping environments
  • Experience supporting DoD customers or field demonstrations
