Description
We are seeking a Substation Physical Designer/Engineer to join our team in Forest Park, GA. As a Substation Physical Designer/Engineer, you will be responsible for designing electrical transmission and distribution substations. You will produce engineering drawings, specifications, and material requirements for substation projects, with a focus on safety, quality, scheduling, and costs.
Major job responsibilities include:
- Prioritizing safety using a 'Safety First' mentality and leading by example
- Preparing high-quality design packages for constructing new or modifying existing electrical substations using CAD-based tools
- Designing physical aspects of electrical substations, including foundation layouts, grounding layouts, conduit layouts, control house layouts, section drawings, and electrical bus design
- Specifying, ordering, and providing approval drawings for non-stock materials
- Coordinating and communicating with other design disciplines and stakeholders
- Performing site visits for projects, including pre-construction meetings, during construction, and post-construction
- Participating in substation design review meetings
- Supporting Southern Company's design criteria and standardization efforts
- Handling multiple tasks simultaneously and setting priorities
- Serving as part of a storm restoration team when requested
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering, or equivalent experience. Strong understanding of electrical substation equipment, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Standards, National Electric Safety Code, and OSHA safe operating practices is preferred. Experience with AutoCAD, 3D modeling software, and document management systems is also preferred.
