Software Engineer, Backend

Grab is Southeast Asia's leading superapp, offering various services such as food delivery, financial management, and ride-hailing.

You will join the GrabX team, which builds and maintains a high-scale, reliable experimentation platform used across all of Grab's marketplaces.

Your primary objective will be to optimize and develop novel A/B testing methodologies, ensure metric reliability, and advance the platform's capabilities for complex experimental designs.

The Critical Tasks You Will Perform:

• Design, develop, and maintain full-stack applications using modern programming languages and frameworks, ensuring code quality and adherence to best practices.
• Build and optimize RESTful APIs and microservices that handle high traffic loads while maintaining low latency and reliability.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and fellow engineers to translate requirements into technical solutions and deliver features.
• Perform schema design, data modeling, and query optimization across relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL/caching solutions (MongoDB, Redis).
• Implement automated testing strategies, including unit and integration tests, to ensure code reliability and reduce technical debt.
• Set up and maintain CI/CD pipelines, containerized environments (Docker/Kubernetes), and cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP/Azure) for seamless deployments.
• Establish comprehensive monitoring, logging, and tracing systems to identify bottlenecks, maintain security standards, and resolve production issues.
• Participate in code reviews, provide constructive feedback, and mentor junior team members to foster a culture of continuous improvement.
• Document technical designs, architecture decisions, and system workflows to ensure knowledge sharing and organizational clarity.
• Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies, bringing ideas to enhance our platform and development processes.

QUALIFICATIONS: What Essential Skills You will Need:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience demonstrating technical competency.
• At least 2 years of professional software development experience with proficiency in at least one backend programming language (Go, Scala, Java, or C++).
• Foundation in frontend technologies including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for building user-facing features.
• Experience with microservices architecture, distributed systems, and RESTful API design principles.
• Hands-on experience with relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL/caching technologies (MongoDB, Redis).
• Experience implementing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and their primary services.
• Knowledge of security best practices and secure coding principles.
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
• Exposure to system design and performance optimization techniques.
• Contributions to open-source projects or a portfolio demonstrating technical expertise.
